Star Ingredient: Buriti 
Among the landscapes, the Buriti stands out. A tall and elegant palm, considered to be the most beautiful palm tree in existence. Its name means “the one that contains water” because it grows next to the watercourse and the streams.

Its leaves, arranged in a fan shape, reflect the waters surrounding the buritizais.

Its clusters are loaded with fruits, and to be harvested they must be picked high up on the palm. Then, the countryman jumps, using the large Buriti leaves as if they were parachutes landing softly in the water.

From Buriti, everything is taken advantage of: the leaves for covering the houses, and the fruits for cooking. The golden pulp of its fruits is used in the preparation of sweets, jams, and ice cream, and from it is extracted a reddish oil, used against burns, with a relieving effect.
